50 Struggles That 90s Kids Remember Too Well

The technology that kids now take for granted was refined over the years through our experiences. We eventually got the internet but we needed to wait for it to connect. We had phones, but they were connected to our houses until Nokia came along with SMS and snake. Oh, and we had something similar to Netflix too, but you had to go to rent a tape or DVD at the videostore. Looking back, these things might seem incredibly basic and inconvenient now, but we loved them! And I’ll take my Nirvana/Soundgarden/Faith No More mixtape over your Jonas Brothers Spotify playlist any day of the week… #2 #3 Analogue and dial-up modems: Before broadband and 4G networks came along we connected …

Spotify is testing its own version of Stories called Storyline

Spotify is testing its own version of Stories — the sharing format popularized by social apps like Snapchat and Instagram that has since made its way to other apps like Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp and others. In Spotify’s case, it’s not called “Stories” but rather “Storyline,” and the focus is on allowing artists to share their own insights, inspiration, details about their creative process or other meanings behind the music. This is very much similar to what Spotify’s “Behind the Lyrics” feature today offers. But instead of pop-up cards that load in time with the music, Spotify Storyline is very much a Stories-like experience, where users tap through the different screens at their own pace, and where horizontal lines at the …

I Was Sober At A Music Festival & This Is What It Taught Me Betches

So I was surprised as anyone to find myself, at 10pm on Friday night at Shaky Beats festival in Atlanta, as Rüfüs Du Sol closed out day one, dead-ass sober. I guess, in order to really get the full picture, I have to back up a bit. The year was 2018. The weekend was Labor Day. The festival was Electric Zoo, one of my favorite festivals that I have been going to for the past three or four years. (I have lost count at this point.) Every year, I tell myself that I’m not going to do too many interviews and I’m just going to enjoy the festival, and every year, all three days, I get sucked into doing an …

‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ director promises design changes after fan backlash

Sonic games, in the past few years, have been universally acknowledged as not good. They’re notorious for ridiculously confusing plotlines, poorly-rendered, buggy cutscenes, and dialogue so corny it would make an after-school special shudder. It’s a wonder how the legacy of a little blue dude who runs speedily has managed to stay intact this long.  But sometimes you gotta dig in to the cringe to pull out anything of quality. Like a chaos emerald in the rough, a project emerged that would breathe some much-needed life into a franchise dying from lack of self-awareness.   Penny Parker, a voice actress and video producer, is known for her gaming YouTube channel SnapCube, dedicated to Let’s Plays and general uplifting gaming content. …

HBO admits Starbucks cup in ‘Game of Thrones’ episode was a ‘mistake’

The old Daenerys can't come to the phone right now. Her dragons are dead!Image: mashable composite/shutterstock/hbo “I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you” Taylor Swift sang years ago. But it seems the Game of Thrones references run deeper than just dragon imagery. In a new interview, Swift explains that the HBO juggernaut was definitely in her head while writing reputation.  “A lot of the songs [on reputation] were influenced by the show,” she told Entertainment Weekly. Swift has always written semi-autobiographical music, but between 1989 and reputation she became a Thrones fan and couldn’t shake the show’s impact. “These songs were half based on what I was going through, but seeing them through a Game of …

His duties eventually expanded to where he was permitted to experiment on all inmates at the camp who hadn’t been marked for the gas chambers. …

Finally, an ‘Old Town Road’ remix that replaces the instruments with horse sounds

Fans of Lil Nas X’s catchy trap country song “Old Town Road” (and the remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus) are in for a real treat.  The mastermind behind the KNOH YouTube account recreated the song, but replaced all the instruments with audio samples of horse sounds.  “Horses make strange noises. They’re f***ing weird. But they’re majestic creatures,” the video reads before introducing the sound samples that are included in the jam. After the neighs and “clip clop” noises of a horse trot were altered through pitch correction and special effects, they were beautifully assembled to recreate the familiar country anthem. And of course, the video would be nothing without the stunning horse clips and lyrics flashing across the screen. Not …
